A Reflection on Generosity 🙌

We live in a world that often defines generosity by numbers — the size of the donation, the value of the gift, or the visibility of the act. But when we look at Scripture, we see that true generosity isn’t about the size of what’s given. It’s about the posture of the heart that gives.

In Mark 12:41–44, Jesus notices a widow who drops two small coins into the temple offering. To the crowd, her gift looked insignificant. But to Jesus, it was everything.

“She, out of her poverty, has put in everything she had — all she had to live on.”

Her generosity wasn’t measured by how much she gave, but by how deeply she trusted God with what she had — her whole life.

That’s the kind of generosity that changes everything — the kind that flows from faith, not comfort.

At tre, we’ve seen this truth play out time and time again. Whether it’s a volunteer giving their time to serve, a student offering encouragement to a friend who’s struggling, or a donor choosing to give faithfully month after month — these small acts of generosity are often what God uses to bring belonging, purpose, and hope to others.

Generosity isn’t just about meeting needs. It’s about participating in what God is already doing — through us, around us, and often in spite of us. When we give of our time, talents, or resources, we’re saying yes to being part of His story.

So as we enter this season of gratitude, take a moment to thank God for the people who’ve walked with you — and to ask how He might be inviting you to give. Sometimes generosity starts small. Sometimes it costs something. But it always multiplies.

Because when we give with open hands and open hearts, we don’t just give things away — we make space for God to move.

🌊 Looking Ahead: Giving Tuesday

As we approach Giving Tuesday, we’re reminded that generosity isn’t just something we do — it’s something we get to be part of. This year, tre Ministries is inviting our community into The Ripple Effect Challenge — an opportunity to see how impact multiplies when we give and invite others to do the same.

Stay tuned for details on how you can be part of this movement of generosity and help us continue creating spaces of belonging, purpose, and hope for young adults across Sioux Falls.

Here’s a prayer for all of us this season:

Lord, thank You for being the most generous giver — of grace, love, and life itself. Teach us to live with open hands. Help us see opportunities to give where it costs us something, and to trust You with the outcomes we can’t control. May our generosity reflect Your heart, bringing belonging, purpose, and hope to those around us. Amen.

With gratitude,
The tre Ministries Team
