5 Practices for Building Community in Your Twenties
Life as a young adult is filled with transitions—new jobs, new cities, and shifting friendships. It can be easy to feel disconnected, but God designed us for community! In a world that often values independence over deep relationships, building Christian community takes intentionality. Here’s how you can cultivate meaningful faith-centered friendships in this season of life.
1. Show Up Consistently 👏
Community isn’t built overnight—it grows through small, intentional moments. Attending a Bible study each week, inviting someone new to grab coffee, or taking the time to pray for a friend are simple actions that help cultivate deep and lasting relationships. Consistency is key—whether you’re joining a worship night, engaging in a small group, or simply spending time with friends, showing up regularly makes all the difference. If you're looking for a place to be a part of, tre Ministries offers Young Adult Groups, Friday Night Hangouts, and so many more events—all designed to help you connect and grow in faith with others!
2. Be Open and Vulnerable 🫶
Real friendships require real conversations. Don’t be afraid to share your struggles, doubts, and victories. When you’re willing to be open, it invites others to do the same, creating a space where authenticity thrives and people can show up as they are.
3. Serve Together 🤝
One of the best ways to deepen relationships is by serving others! Look for ways to volunteer—whether in your church, at a nonprofit, or within tre Ministries. Serving alongside others creates shared purpose and lasting bonds. (Shameless plug…serve with us at Love Your City July 14-17! We have a BUNCH of opportunities that fit anyone’s schedule, and you can sign up for one or as many opportunities as you want!)
4. Seek Out Mentorship 🙏
Surround yourself with people who challenge you to grow in faith. A great mentor isn’t just someone older—they’re someone who walks alongside you, encourages you, and helps you navigate life’s big questions through a biblical lens. This could be a pastor who meets with you monthly for guidance, a friend who keeps you accountable in your faith, or a leader at tre Ministries who takes the time to pray with and invest in you. Whether it’s a pastor, an older friend, or a mentor, having someone to encourage and guide you can make a significant impact on your spiritual journey.
5. Pray for Your Community
Ask God to bring the right people into your life and to deepen the friendships you already have. Prayer is powerful, and when you invite God into your relationships, He moves in amazing ways!
